Wonder Why They Call You Bitch?

Money,
lots of money.
Status.
Prestige.
You know, that feeling when you walk in the club late and EVERYBODY notices your presence? Or when you meet somebody new, you tell them your name and they make that face like the just came out of a daze, “Oh! You’re [insert (in)famous name here]”.
Well the answer is NO.
No, of course not everybody knows this feeling; because if everyone knew this feeling then it wouldn’t be cool to walk in late to the party anymore.
(Unless, of course, you’re going to a party fulla black people where everybody walks late, then it just doesn’t matter).

If you’re not this person, then chances are you might be that person that wants to get close to that person. Now, if you’re a guy, let me rephrase that; if you’re a man, then your pride and/or logic is going to influence your actions when trying to be a part of the “in” crowd or being around the “in” person.
However, if you’re a female; or in many cases, a non-man male, then your desire influences your actions. You are willing to do anything to get noticed, to obtain that type of recognition where people want to be around you. However, a common oversight is that, although, this lapse in behavioral inhibition may temporarily produce the desired result, it often yields an unwanted judgmental conclusion. For many women, this behavioral inhibition is within the sexual realm. It’s common knowledge that, appearance has much to do with one’s status. If most of us are aware of this then how can it be appropriate for a woman to feel wronged if she is judged negatively for barely covering herself in clothing? We also know that status is deemed through one’s actions, so if you act like a ho’, what other recourse could someone have but to call it how they see it?

What about the females that call themselves bitches? Or ho's? Is it still a derogatory term if a woman uses this word to describe herself? If a gay called himself a "faggot" or a black man calls himself a "nigga/er", do this open the portal for the remainder of society to emulate this behavior toward that black man or that gay man? Or should it only be reserved for the user? (Maybe this is an entirely new blog post)

I’ve never been a proponent of using the word “bitch” as a general term of reference for women, however, a bitch is a female dog, correct? Are dogs not emotionally impulsive, only concerned about the present and continuously yapping about nothing? Well, if this is the case, then what other recourse could someone have but to call it how they see it?

-“If you act like a ho’, I’ma call you a ho’. Too many bitches is shady” – Jay-Z (Reasonable Doubt, 22 Two’s)

I’m just posing a couple of questions and looking for insight. I’m interested to know what you think. How do you define a bitch or a ho’? Also, are the terms bitch and ho’ gender exclusive? What do you think?

I think the term bitch opens the door for violence against women, in the same way the word nigger opens up the door and creates a climate for racism. These classification are used to justify the treatment of the victim. The connection is clearly displayed in the "Slap a Bitch" photo above. I don't think bitch, nigger or faggot have any real meaning outside of a women, gay people and black people that someone is currently mad it. It's 2:07 I am tired...not sure if this makes sense.

Hmmm... Do think your comment has universal relevance? I mean, if a female calls herself a bitch or says, "I'm THAT bitch", does this mean that she's open to receive violence?

Good point. Let me reframe that statement. My primary focus was on men using this term to refer to women. Secondarily, women using it to refer to other women in a negative way. Both of these clearly serve a male agenda.

The aspect that you bring up in your blog is about women who choose to redeem the word and use it as a method of empowerment. Using the word in this way has a neutralizing affect just like Nigga used in a positive sense.

"What about the females that call themselves bitches? Or ho's? Is it still a derogatory term if a woman uses this word to describe herself?"

Btw, I think ho has a real definitive meaning, bitch is just a female someone is mad at.

I THINK IT DEPENDS ON THE INDIVIDUAL. SOME WOMEN EQUATE THE WORD BITCH WITH POWER. NOW IF A FEMALE IS COMFORTBLE WITH BEING CALLED A BITCH OR LABELED AS A HO THEN ITS ACCEPTABLE. ITS THE SAME FOR A MAN WHO IS COMFORTABLE WITH BEING CALLED A NIGGA . IVE EVEN HEARD MEN(BLACK) CALL EACH OTHER BITCH ASS NIGGAS JOKINGLY AND WERE SEEMINGLY OK WITH IT, WHICH ALSO SHOWS THAT IT DEPENDS ON THE PERSON WHO IS CALLING YOU THESE NAMES. I DOUBT ANYONE WOULD ALLOW SOME RANDOM TO CALL THEM OUT THEIR NAME. SO ONE CANT REFER TO ALL WOMEN AS BITCHES OR ALL BLACK MEN AS NIGGAS AT ANY GIVEN TIME.

@Anonymous. Yea, I think you're perspective certainly has merit, but what are the parameters? I think we can all agree that there isn't a universal standard when it comes to bitch/nigga/er; but rappers call their general demographic bitches and niggas. "Where all my bitches at?! Where all my niggas at?!" Are they not considered to be a "random" person?.

Additionally, how many times has a random black man walked up to another random black man and said "what up my nigga?" I can't recall a time when I've heard a random woman (black or other) walk up to another random woman and say, "what up bitch?" Unless of course either party was anticipating conflict. Maybe there's a double standard that applies to "bitches" and "niggas". Seems like that would be the most appropriate parallel considering the plethora of double standards that apply to men and women period.

Man, I have so much to say! where to begin?

"if you’re a female; or in many cases, a non-man male, then your desire influences your actions."

^^ Utter F*ckery. I know plenty of men that "think" without using any logic whatsoever, and plenty of women that do. I hope that was their for comic relief... jerk.

However this: "bitch is a female dog, correct? Are dogs not emotionally impulsive, only concerned about the present and continuously yapping about nothing?" <--LOL complete cosign.

@Anonymous who said that "bitch" is equated with power for some- why can't a random person call her that then? *shrug*

I think the term bitch can be very useful, when used appropriately. The frequency with which many black women use it today, however, disturbs me. "I'm a bad bitch... Bitch (referencing her friend) you are so funny!...Bitch (referencing her friend again) you have on mismatched shoes." I mean, you name the situation, and they can find a way to include "bitch" uselessly into their conversations. Women like that, in my opinion, should not be mad if someone else also chooses to refer to them as a bitch.

@Mr. Ashby: what is the definitive meaning of "hoe" these days? It seems to me that both words "bitch" and "hoe" have been given various meanings and connotations.

I'd like to follow up with a bit of clarification. I only focused on black women because I happen to be one. White women have been using the term "bitch" loosely for a while now too. One of my favorite songs from the 90's was Meredith Brooks- Bitch. Check it out lol.

@Dolce I just realized that I made a typographical error in the section of my post that you quoted, I meant to write, "if you're this type of female (the type previously mentioned); or in many cases ..."

Yes, there are men and women that delve into their impulses and desires from time to time, who doesn't? This is a pure humanistic characteristic. I just wanted to emphasize a contrast. Men and women occasionally allow their desires to influence their actions, bitches allow their desires to control their lives. I hope provided clarity.

Ohhh I see... well in that case, I co-sign. :=) <--- yea... I stole it...
